Xenophobia could attack tourism growth
Tue, 20 May 2008 12:42Violence against foreigners that has swept across South Africa's townships, leaving at least 24 people dead, could hurt growth in the country's key tourism sector.
The country's tourism minister Marthinus van Schalwyk said that South Africa is a regular visited place by Africans holidaymakers. He said that if they continue, the attacks will cause more visitors to shy away from the country.
He said that it is crucial for South Africa to earn trust from foreign nationals who are planning to visit the country, especially ahead of the 2010 soccer tournament.
