The role of the Input Editor is to plan, develop, oversee and organise all aspects of business news gathering and programming content for the channel, playing a leadership role in the newsroom and paying close attention to content and content delivery.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently create and run daily, weekly and long term business news diaries
• Maintain integrity across a number of programmes scheduled over the course of a day, every week day
• Have a good contact base to ensure that the channel will take the lead in breaking and developing business news stories
• Ensure that all content on the channel is of the highest standard, integrity and level of independence attainable and that the news policy of CNBC Africa is implemented
• Assign stories to reporters and producers and assist them in developing the best angles and identifying the best people to interview
• Assist in programming design and format/design of shows
• Work closely with the Executive Producer in the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of the newsroom and the best deployment of newsroom staff
• Determine coverage and exercise editorial decisions on a day-to-day basis
• Plan and organize ahead for coverage of upcoming events
• Design, plan and conduct suitable training for new hires for areas such as writing, and reporting to ensure implementation of CNBC Africa’s style guide and programme design
• Ensure continuous focus on implementation of set standards and news policy by continually mentoring and training staff; overseeing and implementing the channel’s style; and adapting to feedback on that style
• Maintain regular contact with guests on the channel for maintaining relationships as well as ensuring effective guest appearance
• Regular contact with technical department as well as sales and marketing
• Conduct daily editorial meetings and ensure that clear communication takes place across the day in terms of story development, breaking news, and guest appearances
• Along with the Executive Producer, manage the performance of individual members of the Department
• Be completely familiar with the latest events and business news in the region and the world

Skill and Experience Requirements

• Relevant Qualification in Markets, Business or Journalism
• Minimum of 7-8 years’ experience in television broadcasting and other media
• A nose for news and an ability to interpret events and their impact on the business audience
• Understanding of the markets and business
• Excellent writing and communication, skills
• Team player
