S.Africa's mines minister has urged mining houses should collaborate with other sectors of the economy.

“One of the conclusions that came in our session was that there was a tendency by the mining houses to work as self and not work in collaborative ways,” Ngoako Ramatlhodi told CNBC Africa.

Ramatlhodi said there was a need to get synergies between mining and other sectors of the economy.

The mineral resources minister said South Africa’s mining companies should consider working on Sundays to recoup losses incurred during the strikes season.

“We are looking at how to increase production. We need to explore using weekend days like Sundays so as to cover for losses incurred if the unions agree."
