He added that the WEF Annual Meetings are a positive platform to learn about the concerns of global leaders in politics, economy and academia.

Responding to Eskom’s withdrawal of its participation in WEF, Goldin said that the forum is what one makes of it.

“What matters is what you do with the knowledge that you acquire in these meetings. We can have meetings here that can help [organisations like Eskom] do a better job back home,” he said.

Goldin further stated that Africa is doing well and that perceptions about the region are changing.

“Africa as a whole is doing incredibly well. The views on the continent are changing as it is going to be the second rapidly growing region in the world,” he added.

He also said that South Africa is going through complex political challenges, adding that the country is expected to show greater leadership in the region.
