Against the backdrop of growing investor concern in Africa's mining sector, professional services firm KPMG will be hosting the Mining Executive forum on 9 and 10 September 2015.

The event appropriately titled “Fit for Future” will give mining executives the opportunity to engage with peers in interactive and informative sessions to discuss the current key challenges facing the mining industry.

The forum will be held in South Africa, Africa's most advanced economy, which is dealing with its own challenges in the mining sector. The country saw a 1.3 per cent drop in its second quarter gross domestic growth as a result of labour disputes in the country’s mining sector and slowing Chinese demand for commodities.

“The theme of the forum is designed to create thought provoking discussions around what impacts the business of the future, something that should drive modern boards’ strategic decision making,” says KPMG.

The auditing firms’ Global Head of Citizenship and Diversity, Lord Michael Hastings, Jimmy Daboo, Partner Head of Global Mining, Brian Dames, former CEO of Eskom Holdings and Paul Verryn ordained minister of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa are some the guest speakers.

A portion of the registration fee will be invested in KPMG’s Corporate Citizenship Programmes in South Africa.

“Helping us make a lasting difference in underprivileged communities and supporting the theme Fit for Future."
