S.Africa's Eskom appoints top public servant as new CEO

Tshediso Matona was named on Wednesday as the new chief executive of South African state-run power utility Eskom.

He will be taking on one of the most important positions in Africa’s most advanced economy.

Matona, a civil servant who has been heading the Department of Public Enterprises, takes the helm as Eskom, which provides virtually all of South Africa’s power, scrambles to bring new stations online and faces an uphill struggle to fund its expansion programme.
