For business leader of the year, Asher Bohbot, chief executive officer (CEO) of IT firm EOH Holdings, was awarded for his pioneering vision and consistent drive to forumalte IT strategies across his company.
Fred Robertson, founder of numerous black economic empowerment (BEE) companies including Brimstone Investment Corporation, was honoured with the Entrepreneur of the year award for being a leading figure in the region’s busines landscape.
The young business leader of the year award was jointly presented to the CEOs of the marketing advisory services firm, Creative Counsel, Gil Oved and Ran Neu-Ner for their innovative and charismatic entrepreneurial spirits that drive the success of their company.
The lifetime achievement award was given to Phuthuma Nhleko, a remarkable business leader who has shaped the region’s business climate through a dedication to best practices and innovation.
Nhleko is the former CEO of the MTN Group and has served on the boards of several major companies such as the GSM Association, Old Mutual SA and the Nedbank Group.

“As the African economy continues to emerge and grow, it is pioneering individuals such as these who continue to lead the continent on the path to prosperity. We are proud to be in a position to acknowledge them at the highest level,” said Dominic Mearing, head of the Reserve.
The West African round of the AABLAs is set to take place on the 23 October 2014 with the finale event set for the 14 November, where all regional winners will compete for the ultimate title of Africa’s most prestigious business leaders.
