Fire at Sasol’s Secunda plant leaves 23 injured

A fire broke out at Sasol’s Synthol plant in Secunda on Tuesday night leaving 23 employees injured.

The energy and chemical company [DATA SOL:Sasol LTD.] said that the fire was contained to a relatively small part of the plant and all personnel were evacuated from the area.

While there were no fatalities or significant injuries, around 23 employees were treated at the local medical station mostly for smoke inhalation.

“The cause of the incident will be investigated and Sasol will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities in this regard,” said Sasol in a statement.

The plant was shut down and remained closed on Wednesday.
