MTN South Africa [DATA MTN: MTN] CEO Ahmad Farroukh has resigned from the mobile operator with effect from 31 July 2015. No replacement has yet been found.

The mobile operator has been dealing with a strike over wages that is now in its sixth week. When the strike first broke, some of the protesters called on him to step down, see header image.

According to MTN Group President and CEO, Sifiso Dabengwa, “this was a difficult decision to take for Ahmad, but unavoidable due to personal and family reasons.”

Farroukh joined MTN in 2006, with the acquisition of Investcom.
