Orange sells its Ugandan operations to Africell

One of the world’s largest telecommunications company, the Orange Group, sells its Ugandan division to mobile company, Africell.

The Orange Group has signed an agreement with Africell Holdings for the sale of its majority stake in Orange Uganda.

Orange Uganda was created in 2008, and is the third largest telecoms operator in the country with a client base of over 620,000.

“This transaction marks a new step in the Orange Group’s asset portfolio optimisation strategy for which Africa and the Middle-East remain a strategic priority,” said the Orange Group in a statement.

The price of the sale was not disclosed.

The agreement, which is still subject to regulatory approval, will allow Orange Uganda to continue its development.
