“We built the app to give electricity customers and users better and more direct access to information that applies to their own consumption profile. Ultimately, it should help users consume electricity more efficiently, improve communication and services,” said Sal Laher, chief information officer of Eskom and divisional executive for the group’s information technology division.

The app which is available for use on Android and iOS devices as well as a Mobi-site for other devices enables users to build personalised profiles based on the types of appliances they have in their homes.
The forecasted national power status is also visible on the app along with links to schedules for load shedding and notifications for important announcements.

Other developments on the app which will take place at a later stage including meter readings, purchasing prepaid electricity and receiving regular updates on the status of the system.
