CNBC Africa continues to attract Africa's top financial journalists

Fri, 28 Sep 2007

Mgabadeli has extensive experience in business reporting and is becoming a household name in financial journalism across Africa. She was awarded with the Vodacom Award for Media Rising Star and the broadcasting TV category award in both the Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year 2006 awards and the Sanlam Excellence Awards in Financial Journalism 2006. Trevor Ormerod, the channel’s COO says he is very excited that the channel has added another renowned financial anchor to CNBC Africa’s current base of highly experienced anchors. Siki Mgabadeli is excited to be part of the CNBC team because of the new experience, global brand and for the fact that CNBC Africa has the right message for the right audience – and it’s time that the growing African economy is given its rightful place. Gary Alfonso, CNBC Africa’s Head of Programming, says Mgabadeli joins the channel as a Senior Anchor – starting from the 1st of October 2007. “Siki will fill a vital role in our efforts to reflect and report on the ever-growing business and market activities on the African continent”, says Alfonso. “The market’s response has been overwhelmingly positive to CNBC Africa’s to-the-minute reporting of business, markets and economic news from trading markets on the continent. Siki’s experience and passion for the African business story will add great dimensions to our ever-growing business reporting platform”, says Alfonso. Siki Mgabadeli will primarily present the afternoon and evening markets programmes “Regional Update” at 4pm and “Markets Tonight” at 8pm – both of which are focused on the day’s trade and business news from South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and London, as well as other stock exchanges in Africa. “We are most excited about Siki joining us because the global CNBC network is starting to require greater input from global market centres. Therefore, Siki and other key anchors and regional reporters now allow us the variation and skills to give CNBC Europe and CNBC International business news from a truly African investment perspective”, adds Alfonso. CNBC Africa currently broadcasts up to nine and a half hours of locally produced content daily from its studios in Sandton, Johannesburg, and its bureaus based in Cape Town, Nairobi, Lagos, Abuja and London. From October 2007, the channel will be providing the Global CNBC Network with live market reports from Johannesburg, emphasizing the channel’s global reach and relevance.
