<p>South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has sound the alarm on corruption and mismanagement of the COVID-19 procurement of contracts and funding that was meant to pave the road for recovery from the pandemic. Legal organisations have been called upon to clamp down on corrupt individuals, which so far, are mostly government employees. So how does one trust the very institutions that are meant to repair the country, yet are the same institutions that are hindering growth and recovery? The Attorney General Alliance of Africa and the National Prosecution Authority hosted a discussion this week on this matter and Kim Robinson, Country-Coordinator for AGA-Africa joins CNBC Africa for more.</p>

<p>The National Prosecuting Authority is confident in its evidence against the eight VBS Bank accused individuals, Yesterday seven of the eight accused pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud, money laundering and racketeering. <p>This morning seven people were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge magistrates court in Kathlehong Johannesburg for their alleged involvement in stealing billions of rand from small time savers withe VBS Mutual Bank. It is highly likely that the investigation will widen &#8211; say insiders. CNBC Africa’s Chris Bishop filed this report.</p>

<p>Oil Marketing Companies in Ghana have begun applying the revised energy sector levies which has seen an upward adjustment in both diesel and fuel prices. The move follows a directive from Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority (NPA). <p>JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) &#8211; South Africa has issued an arrest warrant for Zimbabwe’s former first lady Grace Mugabe over an alleged assault in an upmarket district of Johannesburg last year, police spokesman Vishnu Naidoo said on Wednesday.</p>



<p>“I can confirm that a warrant for the arrest of Grace Mugabe was issued last Thursday,” Naidoo said, adding South African police were seeking Interpol’s help to enforce the warrant.</p>



<p>There was no immediate comment from Mrs Mugabe or from authorities in Harare.</p>

<p>Advocate Shamila Batohi is the first female and new National Director of Public Prosecutions. President Cyril Ramaphosa chose her over four other people who were shortlisted for this position. It took Ramaphosa just a few weeks to make his decision announcing Batohi as preferred candidate. She had been senior legal advisor to the prosecutor at International Criminal Court and previously employee at NPA in KZN.
