Monique Vanek is CNBC Africa’s content editor and co-producers Tonight with Bruce Whitfield. She has worked in financial media for over ten years during which time her career has spanned radio, TV, print, public relations and, since 2007, digital media.
She began her career as an intern at Moneyweb before making the move to editor in 2007 during which time she grew a reputation for producing award winning journalists and co-founded MoneywebTax.
In addition to Moneyweb she has worked with Radio Today, Different Angles, the SABC and The Citizen before moving into public relations where she consulted to corporates on social media, spent time copy writing, editing, writing press releases and narrowing the divide between digital and traditional public relations.
During her time at Moneyweb she launched its social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. By December 2012, @Moneyweb’s Twitter profile grew to almost 19 000 followers and 2 600 on Facebook.
Moneyweb’s online audience continued to grow year-on-year under her editorship, despite having what is possibly the smallest financial newsroom in the country.
