Johannesburg’s former Mayor Parks Tau has been appointed President of the United Nations-linked world body United Cities Local Governments (UCLG).
UCLG, headquartered in Barcelona, represents and defends the interests of local governments on the world stage, regardless of their size.

This appointment comes a week after he was named interim chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (Salga), replacing Thabo Manyoni.
