Bonang Mohale, Chairman of Shell South Africa, and Vice President Upstream, Integrated Gas and Country Chair South Africa, formally announced his departure from Shell South Africa. He will officially end his role on 30th June 2017 to pursue other opportunities outside of Shell.

“I am honoured to have been part of this dynamic organisation and to have had the opportunity to lead, serve and uphold the values and principles of the organisation. My journey in Shell has been truly remarkable and enriching. I leave Shell South Africa with contentment knowing that our business demonstrated resilience, continuous improvement and notable growth.

I am also grateful for the privilege I had to work with dedicated members of the industry who strive to meaningfully address energy challenges and to find solutions to access, security and sustainability of energy,” said Mohale.

Mohale commenced his career at Shell South Africa in 2009 as Chairman and Vice President Sales & Operations Downstream. He subsequently took on the role of Vice President Upstream, in January 2014.Before joining Shell, he occupied various senior roles across different organisations such as Otis Elevators, South African Airways, Sanlam, and Drake & Scull FM ll. He also served on the boards of a few companies including Swiss Re Africa and Hollard Insurance.

Mohale will be succeeded by Hloniphizwe Mtolo, who is currently the General Manager for Retail and the Downstream South Africa business lead. Mtolo joined Shell South Africa in 2015. He brings a wealth of experience across various sectors in retail. He has led profitable operations that delivered value in growing and in mature markets.

“It is an exceptional opportunity to be appointed to this role, I look forward to working with all Shell partners to pursue our purpose of providing reliable energy solutions,” commented Mtolo.

Mohale is confident that his successor will undoubtedly add significant value to take the organization forward. He also emphasized that the Royal Dutch Shell executive team as well as key stakeholders welcome this move.
