A South African government task team has rescinded the reinstatement of Brian Molefe as chief executive of state power utility Eskom and a new CEO will be appointed within 48 hours, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown said on Wednesday.

Molefe resigned in November last year after a report by the Public Protector, a constitutionally mandated corruption watchdog, raised questions over Eskom coal deals.

Molefe’s surprise return two weeks ago highlighted divisions in the ANC and drew allegations from opponents that the ruling party and President Jacob Zuma weren’t tackling graft.
