Advocate Shamila Batohi is the first female and new National Director of Public Prosecutions. President Cyril Ramaphosa chose her over four other people who were shortlisted for this position. It took Ramaphosa just a few weeks to make his decision announcing Batohi as preferred candidate. She had been senior legal advisor to the prosecutor at International Criminal Court and previously employee at NPA in KZN.
