Restaurant sales in South Africa grew by 12.7 per cent while sales in its international operations increased by 20.2 per cent due to the depreciation of the rand during the period.

Spur Steak Ranches in South Africa posted an 11.3 per cent increase in sales with a turnover from existing restaurants of up to 9.8 per cent.
The group’s Panarottis Pizza Pasta franchise grew restaurant sales by 28.2 per cent, with a 15.2 per cent turnover from existing restaurants while sales in John Dory’s Fish Grill rose by 21 per cent and by 12 per cent in existing stores.

On the other hand, takeaway chain, Captain DoRegos which was recently acquired by Spur reported a 13.2 per cent decline in sales due to the closure of certain redundant outlets.
[DATA SUR:Spur Corporation Limited] however acquired Hussar Grill Steakhouse on the 1 January 2014, and its sales have been included in the group’s total restaurant sales.

For the period, the group opened 18 Spur Steak Ranches, five John Dory’s, eight Panarottis and four Captain Doregos outlets, bringing their total restaurant base to 490 with 52 outlets operating outside of South Africa.
Spur’s annual results for the year ended 30 June 2014 are set to be released on 11 September 2014.
