US condemns attack on Somali hotel


The United States (US) has said that it strongly condemns al-Shabaab’s terrorist attack on the Maka al-Mukarama Hotel in Mogadishu.

According to reports, al-Shabaab fighters forced their way into the hotel on Friday afternoon. Reuters cited the death toll at 14, which included Somalia’s ambassador to Geneva.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the innocent victims killed in the attack and our regrets to the many who were injured,” the US said.


“The United States praises the Somali forces for their response to this terrorist attack.”

It added that it stands with the Somali people and their government as they bring stability, security, and prosperity to all Somalis.

“We will not be swayed by cowardly terrorist attacks, but will work together for a brighter future.”
