Pembani appoints Bungane as CEO

Pembani Group has announced the appointment of Kennedy Bungane as its chief executive officer (CEO), with effect from 1 August 2014.

Bungane, who recently stepped down as chief executive of Barclays Africa Regional Management and head of strategy, is expected to bring significant financial services experience to Pembani.

“I am delighted to be taking on this new role.  Pembani has a high caliber team and track record of making transformational investments,” said Bungane.

“I am looking forward to helping drive the next phase of its growth in select sectors across Africa.”

Pembani, a South African investment holding company with a focus in mining, energy and resources, holds investments in companies such as Engen, BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa, Exxaro and AfriSam.

The company’s chairman, Phuthuma Nhleko, said, “I am very pleased to welcome Kennedy to Pembani.”
