The South African Revenue Services (SARS) said that over 3.84 million citizens submitted their tax returns by Tuesday. Of those, over two million returns were completed via electronic filing, eFiling, while 1.8 million were submitted via a SARS branch.

SARS has urged all those who have not yet submitted a return to do so as soon as possible as queues at SARS branches and call volumes are likely to build up as the closing date approaches.
The revenue service added that it has seen a steep increase this week in the numbers of people using eFiling, the Contact Centre and visiting branches and expects this figure to increase.
