S.Africa to spend $108 mln on coal terminal upgrade

South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal said on Thursday it would begin a 1.34 billion rand ($108 million) machine replacement programme after almost 40 years of use.

Some of the machinery, including an electrical substation and rail-mounted ship loaders, at Africa’s biggest coal terminal have less than three years of life left in them and require an upgrade. The project will be completed in mid- 2018.
