Global investment and advisory firm Blackstone’s Black Rhino unit has appointed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as chairman. Sanusi was former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria until he was suspended in 2014 by then President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sanusi is currently the emir of Nigeria’s northern Kano state.
The appointment comes as Blackstone views the region as vital to its growth strategy. Its Black Rhino division focuses on the development and acquisitions of energy and infrastructure projects across Africa.
Last year the advisory firm partnered with Dangote to invest jointly up to $5 billion over the next five years in these sectors.
