In 2008, the Democratic Republic of Congo was a net energy exporter, and up to date, has energy reserves of petroleum, natural gas, coal and a potential hydro power generating capacity of 100,000 MW. This however has in the past been hampered by uncertainties in the political arena, and declining interest by investors.
