The Acting Country Representative for WHO in Ghana, Dr. Neema Kimambo has reiterated the UN Family continued support and collaboration of the Government of Ghana in the phase of increasing COVID-19 infections.

In a speech read on her behalf at a brief ceremony to hand over some medical equipment and supplies, Dr. Kimambo said since March 12, 2020 when Ghana recorded its first COVID-19 cases, the United Nations’ WHO together with its Health Partners have supported in capacity building efforts, the provision of logistics as well as technical assistance in coordinating the overall response in Ghana. She added that, to date, WHO has supported the training of about 600 contact tracers.
The latest donation of 4,970 Gene Expert Cartridges, 15,000 pieces of KN 95 Respirator Masks, 32 Patient Monitors and number of Sheilds, Examination Gloves, Goggles, Gowns, Medical Masks, was with support from the World Bank Pandemic Emergency Fund – PEF and presented by Dr. Sally-Ann Ohene, Disease Prevention and Control Officer to the Ministry of Health.
The items which are estimated to cost $360,000.00 are expected to be distributed to the various Treatment Centers, the National Ambulance Service and some selected laboratories in regions with high burden of COVID-19 cases. In addition, the National Ambulance Service received some funding support of GHS 72,300 from WHO to procure fuel to transport COVID-19 cases to designated facilities in the region. Together with the UN Family, WHO also presented 120 oxygen cylinders (with oxygen) to the Ghana Infectious  Disease Centre (GIDC) to help manage the increase in severe and critical cases of COVID-19. 
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu in a statement, recounted the confusion and uncertainty that plagued most countries at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic almost 12 months ago. He further recalled all the emergency preparedness machinery that was activated and how much support the country received from its development partners.   
He acknowledged with regret, how the country seems to be “in that same situation again, getting increases on a daily basis with facilities virtually full”, and therefore called on all Ghanaians to strictly adhere to all the safety protocols since the law enforcement agencies had been mandated to enforce them.
Hon. Agyemang-Manu said he was very grateful to the UN and its agencies for their unflinching support to the Government of Ghana and was hopeful that together, the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic would be won.

Coronavirus – Ghana: WHO Assures Government of Ghana of UN’s Continuous Collaboration in the fight against COVID-19

The United Nations Secretary-General, on Tuesday, voiced grave concerns over the crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region and underscored the need for urgent efforts to protect populations at risk.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Secretary-General António Guterres remained “seriously concerned” over the situation in the region, where hundreds of thousands of people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
In the statement, the Mr. Guterres “attached strong importance to the partnership between the Government of Ethiopia and the United Nations, through its Country Team, in addressing the acute humanitarian needs of all affected populations.”
The UN chief “underlined the need for continued urgent steps to alleviate the humanitarian situation and extend the necessary protections to those at risk”, the statement added.
Mr. Guterres also welcomed the “positive engagement” of the Ethiopian Government during recent visits by senior UN officials, including High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley, and Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud.
‘Extremely grave situation’
High Commissioner Grandi, who recently concluded a mission to Ethiopia, described the situation in Tigray as “extremely grave”.
“People need all possible forms of support: food items, non-food items, medicine, clean water, shelter [and] the closure of the banking system, of the telecommunication system has added to the hardship of thousands of people”, he said at a press conference in Addis Ababa on Monday, before leaving the country.
Mr. Grandi said that though “some progress” in the security situation was reported by the Government, “isolated or scattered incidents continue to happen … and in some areas we continue to observe, violence carried out by various armed elements and militias, but also as often is the case in these military situations, by criminal elements and this has resulted in looting, in violence, sexual violence, in rape.”
Six humanitarian workers also lost their lives in recent weeks, he added.
‘Access is fundamental’
The High Commissioner for Refugees went on to note that he held frank discussions with the Government, where he underlined the that “access is fundamental” for the UN and NGOs to assess the situation and reach people with assistance.
“What I have discussed with all interlocutors … is the importance to have an access management system, a clearance management system, that is fast, that is efficient and as close to the field operations as possible”, he added.
Given the volatile situation, such procedures must be very agile to ensure security of humanitarian workers, Mr. Grandi stressed.
Visit to Eritrean refugee camp
During his mission, Mr. Grandi travelled to southern Tigray and met with refugees at the Mai Aini refugee camp, one of the four camps hosting Eritrean refugees. The people he spoke with reported “very concerning” issues, said Mr. Grandi.
“They reported that they had been cut off, as we know, from support and assistance for several weeks. Some of them told us and told [Ethiopian Minister of Peace] that they had resorted to eating leaves because there was no other food.”
Refugees also reported having been caught up in crossfire, of infiltration of armed actors in the camps, as well as of some forced returns to Eritrea at the hands of Eritrean forces present in the areas. There were also reports that some refugees chose themselves to return to Eritrea given the insecurity prevailing in Tigray, he added.

As a highly infectious new strain of COVID-19 spreads through Southern Africa, health workers in Mozambique, Eswatini and Malawi are struggling to treat escalating numbers of patients with little prospect of a vaccine to protect them from the virus. International medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) calls for COVID-19 vaccines to be distributed equitably, prioritising and protecting frontline health workers and people at highest risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19 in all countries, including in Africa.

“We are appalled by the inequitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines across the world,” says MSF director of operations Christine Jamet. “While many wealthy countries started vaccinating their health workers and other groups nearly two months ago, countries such as Eswatini Malawi and Mozambique, which are struggling to respond to this pandemic, have not received a single dose of vaccine to protect the most at-risk people, including frontline health staff.”
In Eswatini, a country of 1.1 million people, 200 new cases are being reported each day and deaths are around four times higher than in the first wave, with health workers saying that patients are becoming more severely sick this time around. With health facilities overwhelmed, MSF teams have set up tented wards at Nhlangano health centre and brought in extra doctors and nurses to care for critically ill COVID-19 patients.
In Mozambique, case numbers are currently almost seven times higher than at the peak of the first wave. “Health workers are getting sick and those still at work are exhausted,” says MSF head of mission Natalia Tamayo Antabak, whose teams are helping implement infection and prevention control measures at government COVID-19 treatment centres in Maputo to minimise infections in health staff working there.
In Malawi, new cases increased exponentially in January, doubling every four to five days. Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, the main facility offering COVID-19 care in Blantyre, is close to full capacity for patients needing oxygen support. MSF has sent in extra staff and is ready to open an additional 40-bed ward for COVID-19 patients. “The priority right now is protecting frontline health workers,” says Marion Pechayre, MSF head of mission. “If Malawi had 40,000 doses of vaccine, we could at least start by vaccinating health staff in the country’s main hotspots. Without this, the situation will soon be untenable.” So far, 1,298 frontline health workers in Malawi have tested positive for COVID-19 and nine have died.
“People in the poorest countries seem to be at the back of the queue to access this crucial vaccine,” says Jamet. “There is an urgent need for vaccination in countries in Southern African that are struggling to respond to the aggressive spread of the new virus strain, which is overwhelming their health systems.”
While Mozambique, Eswatini and Malawi go without vaccines, wealthier nations are hoarding vaccines with the intention to vaccinate beyond the priority groups.
“It would be indefensible if some countries started to vaccinate their lower-risk citizens while many countries in Africa are still waiting to vaccinate their very first frontline health workers,” says Jamet. “This totally goes against the World Health Organization’s equitable allocation framework. Not only will it prolong the pandemic, but it will put even more lives at risk. We urge governments who have secured more doses than they need for vaccinating their high-risk groups to urgently share their doses, so that other countries can start vaccinating. This is a global pandemic that requires a global spirit of solidarity if we truly hope to bring it under control.”
“MSF calls on vaccine manufacturers to ensure that priority is given to those countries that are in urgent need of protecting their healthcare staff. MSF stands ready to provide logistical support to high priority countries that were denied access to Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine through COVAX because of their limited cold chain management capacity.” says MSF Director of Operations, Isabelle Defourny.

The FOREX regulations imposed by the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) remain one of the major impediments to investments in Central Africa’s energy markets: Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Chad and CAR. Even though their implementation was postponed from January 1st, 2021 to December 1st, 2021, their unchanged terms continue to make them anti-African and anti-jobs. Unfortunately, the industry lacks a coordinated action to engage with policy makers in the region, and most lobbying against the regulations has been done by international operators without the involvement of local stakeholders and companies.

Reaching a fair and just resolution that puts forth the interests of Africans, businesses and investors cannot be done without involving local services companies, local entrepreneurs and the local business community. They are set to suffer the most from such regulations and need to be part of the solution.

“A post-Covid19 recovery strategy can only work when it relies on international oil companies working with national oil companies and local services companies. Addressing market issues in restricted groups out of London and Paris is a practice that belongs to the past. Excluding African stakeholders from the debates and negotiations that can help them secure contracts and create jobs is not going to help take the industry into a sustainable and prosperous future,” declared Nj Ayuk, Executive Chairman at the African Energy Chamber.

The African Energy Chamber continues to advocate for free-market policies across sub-Saharan Africa as the best enablers of economic growth and jobs creation. The adoption and promotion of such policies cannot be a process done without the involvement of local industry groups and organisations whose interests are aligned with their foreign partners on such issues.

Consequently, the African Energy Chamber has decided to fund the establishment of a Committee dedicated to work on the FOREX matters in Central Africa, and led by Leoncio Amada NZE, CEO of APEX Industries and President for the CEMAC region at the Chamber. Under this Committee, the Chamber is inviting all local and international stakeholders to meet and consider a cohesive approach to push for an enabling environment in Central Africa that benefits local companies and entrepreneurs.

A Pragmatic Solution to the BEAC’s FOREX Regulations Will Not be Reached Without the Involvement of Local Stakeholders

With fertile river valleys, expansive coastal lowlands and the prolific Zambezi River as a source of irrigation, Mozambique is considered a mecca for crop cultivation, with climatic conditions catering to a diverse range of agricultural products.
Agriculture represents the second-largest sector of the Mozambican economy – accounting for more than 25% of GDP and employing 80% of the labor force – and is supported by staple crops including maize, cassava, rice, nuts, cotton, coffee, sugar and tobacco. Maize and cassava, for example, are grown by 80% of all Mozambican small-scale farmers and make up more than one-third of cultivated land. Yet the sector remains confined to subsistence farming largely due to a lack of investment, which impedes the development of critical infrastructure required to extend farming practices outside of the individual household.
In fact, smallholder farmers in Mozambique account for 95% of agricultural production, while roughly 400 commercial farmers – primarily producing sugar, soybeans, bananas, rice, vegetables, nuts, cotton and tobacco – account for the remaining five percent. With only 16% of land suitable for farming currently being cultivated – combined with a 1,500-mile coastline that enables export to Middle Eastern and Asian markets via ocean ports – Mozambique boasts considerable potential for large-scale, industrialized farming both in-country and for regional export.
From Net Importer to Net Exporter
A key constraint to the development of commercial agriculture in Mozambique is limited infrastructure: insufficient roads, railway and ports, antiquated farming practices and high vulnerability to drought, floods and cyclones, leaving the sector susceptible to external shocks.
While discovery of Mozambican gas has accelerated energy infrastructure growth since commercial reserves were discovered in 2011, domestic transport and logistics sectors remain underdeveloped, leading to longer lead times and higher costs associated with storage and warehousing. Moreover, limited electricity access and high fuel prices – given that the country relies on imported refined petroleum derivatives – can increase product costs by 10-20% per kilogram. To render small-scale farmers more resilient to climate change and improve farming techniques, resource-smart technologies such as drip systems, pumps, ultraviolet plastic filtration and post-harvest storage have been implemented and met with intermediate success, yet sustained knowledge and technology transfer remains needed.
Despite its considerable export potential to the wider region, Mozambique carries a significant trade deficit, importing capital-intensive goods such as farming and transport equipment, along with processed produce, meat and livestock from its Southern African Development Community neighbors. As a result, integrated value chains that facilitate the manufacturing of cash crops – cashews, tobacco and sugar – stand to generate in-country value by refining raw agricultural goods into consumable products and establishing domestic and regional consumer markets in the process. Improved access to financial services and credit – in which smallholder farmers and small- and medium-sized enterprises can grow their businesses and access critical capital for improved farming technologies – would also serve to alleviate rural poverty and drive financial inclusion.
Natural Gas to Drive Expansion 
Ongoing gas monetization initiatives in Mozambique have a direct impact on the scale and expansion of industrial agriculture in the country, in addition to the potential that gas-to-power offers to power irrigation pumps, dry crops, heat greenhouses and so forth.
Under the administration of President Filipe Nyusi, natural gas has been positioned not as an end within itself, but rather as a means of generating long-term economic diversification, skills development and job creation across energy, agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing and construction sectors. President Nyusi’s focus on agro-industry and agro-chemistry seeks to achieve “zero hunger” in the country through the cultivation of self-sufficient farming and improved access to infrastructure.
More specifically, natural gas offers the ability to reduce costs of food production (and importation) and establish large-scale industrial farming through the development of locally manufactured chemical fertilizers. Natural gas – of which Mozambique holds 100 trillion cubic feet of recoverable reserves – plays an integral role in fertilizer production, as it is used as a primary raw material for the production of liquid ammonia and resulting carbon dioxide gas, which is then combined to create urea fertilizer.
Fertilization not only improves crop yields, but also boosts agricultural profitability and nutrient density. With enhanced crop efficiency and the early seeds of a downstream and manufacturing industry, Mozambique could serve as a regional – and even international – player in food production and security, a transition facilitated by the African Continental Free Trade Area that widens the reach of domestic agriculture and industry. For import-dependent African countries like Mozambique, food and energy security have risen to the forefront of the national agenda in the wake of COVID-19 and disruptions to regional and global supply chains.

The NBA (www.NBA.com) announced today that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for games played in December and January. In his fifth NBA season, it’s Embiid’s second career Player of the Month selection. Embiid joins Hall of Famers Allen Iverson (four times), Charles Barkley (twice), Moses Malone (twice) and Julius Erving (three times) as the only 76ers players to win the award multiple times.

In 16 games between December and January, Embiid averaged 28.3 points (fourth in the NBA, second in the East), 11.1 rebounds (ninth in the NBA, sixth in the East), 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks in 31.7 minutes per game. He was one of three NBA players to average 25 points and 10 rebounds through the season’s first month-plus, joining Western Conference Player of the Month Nikola Jokić and Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 76ers were 14-2 in Embiid’s 16 games and are 15-6 overall on the season, leading the Eastern Conference.

Embiid scored in double figures in 13 of his 14 games, including two 40-plus point performances and a team-best 12 double-doubles. He’s the only player in the NBA with multiple 40-point, 10-rebound double-doubles. Embiid made 152 free throws during the season’s first month-plus, ranking second in the NBA, while leading the league in free throws made (9.5) and attempted per game (11.3). He was the only player in the league to make 16 free throws in multiple games. Iverson and Malone are the only 76ers ever to make at least nine free throws per game for an entire season.

Between Jan. 20-29, over a five-game span, Embiid averaged 35.6 points and 10.4 rebounds, while shooting .560 from the field and .429 from three-point range as the team went a perfect 5-0. He became just the third 76er ever to average 35 points and 10 rebounds over a five-game stretch, joining Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Barkley.

On Jan. 12 vs. Miami, Embiid tallied a season-high 45 points (16-23 FG, 13-13 FT), 16 rebounds, four assists and a career-high five steals in the team&#39;s 137-134 overtime victory. It was his ninth career 40-point, 10-rebound game, adding his 10th such performance eight days later on Jan. 20 vs. Boston. In that game against the Celtics, Embiid had a game-high 42 points (12-19 FG, 17-21 FT) to go along with 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 117-109 win. He committed just one turnover in the contest. Embiid scored 38 points on both Jan. 6 and Jan. 22 against Washington and Boston, respectively. In the Washington game, he added a game-high-tying eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks.

By offering the most comprehensive platform on African energy, Hawilti will be dedicating a substantial part of its investment research activities to natural gas in West, Central, East and Southern Africa. The Coalition will notably publish every year a State of Play report providing key market data on African gas, and all of its research will be directly available on the Hawilti platform.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Tandi Mahambehlala, has said the arrival of the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines from India signifies the success of South Africa’s approach to bilateral and multilateral relations.

Ms Mahambehlala said: “We congratulate the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, through its missions abroad, for their candid vaccine diplomacy. This has been demonstrated through its successful initiation of negotiations, which secured the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines for South Africa. We also extend our gratitude to the friendly government of India, a true friend in need and a trusted partner in the BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa] formation, for prioritising South Africa to receive its first batch of the vaccine to fight the pandemic.”   The Chairperson applauded the cabinet decision to endorse and nominate the “Cuban Medical Brigade”, which is deployed throughout the world, for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. “We thank these gallant heroes and heroines of Cuba for their selfless and unwavering sacrifice to assist the world in the fight against the coronavirus.” About 200 Cuban doctors are deployed in South Africa to help in the fight against Covid-19.   Ms Mahambehlala said the arrival of the vaccines is significant and testament to the success of South Africa’s diplomatic relations. “The importance of diplomacy has once again been proved and is apparent for all to see during this era of the pandemic outbreak. The country under the capable stewardship of President Cyril Ramaphosa should work hard and enhance bilateral and multilateral relations with countries and multinational pharmaceutical companies that have shown capability in manufacturing the vaccines.”   On Monday, President Ramaphosa led a government delegation to welcome the arrival of the first batch of Astrazeneca vaccines from India. The vaccine has undergone successfully trials at Oxford University with South Africa’s scientists making valuable contributions.   Ms Mahambehlala pointed out that South Africa should make the vaccine available to immigrants and neighbouring countries, and appreciated President Ramaphosa’s successful chairing of the African Union during a period that coincided with the outbreak of Covid-19. The committee also noted South Africa’s successful two-year term membership of the United Nations’ Security Council, which has now come to an end.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Dr Sibongiseno Dhlomo, has welcomed the first shipment of one million doses of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine from the Serum Institute of India (SII) that has arrived in the country today.

Dr Dhlomo said the arrival of the first consignment of the vaccine not only marks the start of the vaccine rollout programme, but it shows the government’s commitment towards fighting the pandemic so that protection across South Africans can be achieved. Dr Dhlomo said through its oversight role the, committee will monitor the rollout vaccination programme as this is one of the govemnent’s biggest programmes it has undertaken because of the magnitude and number of people that need to be inoculated.

The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education is satisfied with the overall preparedness of the Gauteng Department of Education to begin the 2021 academic year.

“The briefing we have received has assured us that schooling will commence in earnest come the 15th February. At the centre of commencement of the academic year is the need to ensure safety for both teachers and leaners. The department has assured the committee that personal protective equipment will be delivered from 3 February 2021, and will be completed before teaching and learning commences,” said Ms Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, the Chairperson of the committee.   Regarding the R431 million decontamination, disinfection and cleaning of schools contracts, the committee noted the briefing it received from the department and will await the conclusion of the investigation before it can have an informed view on the matter. “Despite this, the principle of transparency, good governance and prudent spending of taxpayers’ resources should remain an integral pillar of processes of government,” Ms Mbinqo-Gigaba emphasised.   While the committee is generally satisfied with preparedness, it is concerned that the department has to date not placed all learners who applied. This will have a negative impact on the lives of the 1.48% (3 283) of learners who have not yet been placed. Although the committee is cognisant that Gauteng faces an in-migration, with 222 275 applications for placements, placing unprecedented pressure on its systems and resources, it has requested that the department expedite processes to place these learners.     The committee welcomes the information that delivery of learner and teacher support material is almost complete, with 99,8% of texbooks delivered to schools that participate on the central procurement system. The remaining schools have requested the department to deliver when schools open because of a fear of burglaries.    The continued vandalism of schools is a major concern for the committee, because resources are then diverted away from building additional schools (which are necessary to meet demand), to repair and replace vandalised schools. The committee urged the department to engage the security cluster and communities in the province to create the stakeholder compacts that are critical in resolving the challenge. “We have to urgently address the vandalism of schools, as it robs our children of the opportunity to improve their lives through education. Society in general must also take ownership of the schools, as they are critical in the development of their communities,” Ms Mbinqo-Gigaba said.   The committee welcome the fact that the School Nutrition Programme continues to make an impact on the lives of vulnerable children. The 1 546 187 million learners from quintile 1 to 5, the 16 493 learners who are being fed even though they have not returned to school, and the 667 learners who are receiving food parcels attest to the positive impact this programme has on the lives of the poor. The committee welcomes the employment of 32 monitors in the 2020/21 financial year to further strengthen the monitoring of the programme.   Regarding catch-up plans, the committee welcome the intention to hold extra-curricula classes to ensure that learners are adequately prepared for examinations. The committee also welcomes the plans for additional support to teachers in relation to learning and assessment guidelines to support teachers in the implementation of the recovery plan.   The committee called on the department to ensure that schools have replacement teachers so that teaching and learning continues in those cases where teachers are unavailable due to increased risk caused by co-morbidities. The committee also emphasised the need to strengthen psycho-social support to teachers and learners during this difficult time.   The close working relations between the department and stakeholders is welcomed and must be carried through into the coming academic year, as collaboration ensures plans are implemented effectively.

Gauteng is ready to begin 2021 Academic Year

“I have always believed that gender equality would impact positively on the provision of high-quality health care in Bauchi state,” says Amina Madi a Gender Desk officer, Human Resource for Health (HRH) unit in Bauchi State Ministry of Health (SMOH).

As a trained mid-wife previously responsible for delivering life-saving maternal and child health care services in her locality, Amina has always envisioned a health system where all health workers can achieve their highest potential through gender equality and nondiscrimination.  
Her hopes attained fruition as she is one of the frontline health workers in Bauchi State who benefitted from capacity building activities facilitated by the Global Affairs Canada-funded Enhancing the Ability of Frontline Health Workers to Improve Health in Nigeria project. 
The project, initiated in 2014 by the WHO, aimed to reduce deaths and improve the health of infants, children, women and men in Bauchi and Cross River States of Nigeria. It also aimed to increase the quantity and quality of frontline health care workers, such as midwives, nurses, and community health workers, to improve the delivery of maternal, newborn and child health care services in Nigeria.
Commending the project for its investments in health workforce planning, Amina says it has facilitated the creation of gender and human resources for health unit within Bauchi SMOH. She is now the State’s focal point responsible for mainstreaming gender in all state policies and plans across all programme areas including HRH strengthening policies, strategies and plans. Her capacity to achieve these were built over the years through the project.
Meanwhile in Cross River, a health planner who also benefitted from the project, Mr Okina Nzie Mba, said it has been a game changer in the State’s efforts to address the HRH shortages in delivering essential maternal, newborn and child services. 
He is the current Coordinator of the Human Resources for Health Unit of the Department of Planning Research and Statistics (DPRS), Ministry of Health in Cross River state. In his capacity, Mr Okinna provides both technical and administrative support for the Enhancing the Ability of Frontline Health Workers project in the state.
He said the project has assisted Cross River state to train competent, highly skilled health workers who can manage and deliver essential maternal health care in areas of need.
“I have worked in different capacities within the Cross Rivers State Ministry of health after joining as a health information officer in 2008. When WHO began implementing the Enhancing Ability of Frontline Health Workers project, there was an urgent need to create a human resource for health unit within the DPRS to better address workforce crises in the state. Participating in this project is undoubtedly one of the best and most rewarding decisions I have made in my career”. 
“During the project, I participated in various capacity building events and training, and helped plan, conduct and evaluate interventions on human resource for health. A key achievement under my watch was to conduct the Workload Indicator Staffing Needs (WISN) Assessment. Through WISN, we were able to identify gaps in the inequitable distribution of human resources for primary healthcare in the state. It also availed the opportunity to redistribute health workforce across the primary health facilities,” he added. 
Buttressing the need for Nigeria to continually invest in the health workforce, WHO Nigeria Country Representative, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo said the Enhancing the Ability of Frontline Health Workers to Improve Health in Nigeria project has empowered government and health training institutions to produce, distribute and manage health workforce based on evidence. According to him, this is pertinent as investment in health workforce is one of the best buys in health.
