Platinum mining giant, Anglo American Platinum&#8217;s share price roared after declaring a giant dividend of R52.60 apiece and recorded soaring profits. With the company’s results on a high the question on everyone’s lips is why would its CEO, Chris Griffith, leave now?</p>

<p>Anglo Platinum has delivered a sterling set of results. The platinum group increased headline earnings per share by 120 per cent to R28.15 and they have declared a cash dividend of R3 billion or R11 per share. CNBC Africa’s Kopano Gumbi spoke to the Chief Executive, Chris Griffith.</p>

<p>Anglo American Platinum handed over 270 hectares of land to the local municipality in Rustenburg. This area is rich in ore and it comes at a time when the nations ruling party attempts to introduce the expropriation of land without compensation law.</p>

<p>Anglo American Platinum released its year end results revealing a 95 per cent increase in profits higher and a 4 per cent increases production. The platinum industry has been severely affected by the Eskom power cuts which cost the Platinum producer 14000 ounces of lost platinum production. <p>The platinum sector and Anglo American Platinum specifically is in a much better position than it was in five or six years ago, CEO Chris Griffith told CNBC Africa’s Fifi Peters at the 25th Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.</p>

Anglo Platinum H1 profit slumps

<p>Anglo American Platinum Chief Executive Chris Griffith, who appeared this week at a mining conference in a wheelchair, was injured by a Cape buffalo while on vacation, the company said on Wednesday.</p>
<p>&#8220;While Chris Griffith was on holiday he had an encounter with a buffalo and sustained injuries. He is back in the office and we are all wishing him a speedy recovery,&#8221; Amplats said in a statement.</p>
<p>It gave no further details and did not say where the incident took place.</p>
<p>Cape buffalo are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa and are prized by hunters as they are in the so-called big game five, along with elephants, leopards, lions and rhinos. (Reporting by Ed Stoddard; editing by David Clarke)﻿</p>
