<p>The idea of the so-called vaccine passports to prove inoculation against Covid-19 is now gaining momentum across the world. Could the Covid passport be the ticket to a full recovery for the airline industry? CNBC Africa spoke to the Chief Economist at International Air Travel Association, Brian Pearce for more.</p>

<p>The International Air Transport Association has published its revised outlook for the airline industry for 2020. The global net loss estimate has increased by 41 per cent, compared to the forecast in June. With the re-opening of borders and a possibility of a vaccine, performance is expected to see a turn for the better in 2021. Joining CNBC Africa to unpack those estimates is Muhammad Albakri, Regional Vice President for Africa &#038; the Middle East, International Air Transport Association.</p>

<p>With the news of the possible move to level 1 lock-down in South Africa, tourism bodies have been lobbying to reopen international borders for travel. The travel restrictions have had a dire impact on Africa’s airline industry and they are ready to go back to work according to Air France-KLM, joining CNBC Africa for more is Wouter Vermeulen, General Manager for Southern Africa at Air France-KLM.</p>

<p>It’s close to five months now since Kigali International Airport was closed to commercial flights as a measure to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The airport is scheduled to reopen on August 1st and various health and safety measures have been put in place as CNBC Africa’s Steven Muvunyi reports.</p>
