In an impromptu press briefing the ANC’s outgoing secretary general Jessie Duarte revealed that provincial executive committees (PECs) of KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and North West, who are not voting delegates have been disqualified due to court orders, they have been converted to non voting delegates. Also withdrawn are those who did not pass a verification process of having held a branch meeting.

Duarte also dispelled reports over the inflation of numbers. She said: “There was no inflation of the numbers”. Instead of having voting delegates which would have been over 5000 the number now stands at 4700. It is not unusual to delay credentials, she added.

Credentials have been adopted and voting should take place later this afternoon, with the announcement of a new top six made tomorrow.
