Drought looms in Southern Africa

Last week Zambia declared its drought a national disaster, with President Hakainde Hichilema saying that over one million farmers and one million hectares of plated land had been affected by the El Niño weather phenomenon. Zimbabwe has said it plans to import over 1 million metric tons of maize over the next year as it seeks to limit the impact that the unusually warmer weather pattern may have on food security.
